An article recently published in Northampton Poetry Review with some thoughts on a local poet. My work discusses Mary Leapor, an Eighteenth-Century labouring-class poet from Northamptonshire. She was a scullery maid in one of Northampton’s large country houses and wrote poetry in between long and laborious shifts. At 24, she died of measles and never got to see the success of her work in print.

Leapor’s poetry has been historically overlooked due to both her gender and social status. Hopefully, some might be encouraged to look into Leapor to grant her the poetic authority she deserves.

There are also some amazing writers and illustrators featured in this issue which are worth checking out. Happy reading!
